Wild Scottish Sauna experiences

While staying at Elderburn Lodges near St Andrews, you have a choice of four new wild sauna locations, each around a 20-minute drive away. One is on the shores of Kingsbarns Beach, another is in Eden Springs Country Park, the third is at West Sands beach in St Andrews, and finally the newest one located at The East Sands beach in St Andrews. They are each beautiful, tranquil settings in Fife. These luxury 12-person saunas provide a unique wellness experience, allowing you to unwind in soothing heat while taking in peaceful views. Choose from a range of experiences, from private sessions for up to 12 people to shared social sessions with up to 7 other individuals.

Sauna use offers numerous health benefits, both physical and mental. The heat helps relax muscles, relieve tension and ease joint pain. Regular use can improve circulation, reduce blood pressure and promote cardiovascular health. Sweating also helps detoxify the body by flushing out toxins and cleansing the skin. Saunas may also reduce stress, promote relaxation and even improve sleep. Cold exposure, such as dipping into the sea after a sauna, further enhances the benefits.

These wild saunas offer a wonderful experience in nature, located in beautiful settings, with sustainability as a core principle. Operations are off-grid, relying on renewable energy sources to reduce the carbon footprint, and they use locally sourced wood to heat the saunas, which minimises transportation emissions. You are encouraged to cool off in the sea at Kingsbarns, rather than using fresh water. You should also bring along a reusable water bottle, which you can refill with drinking water onsite.

We stayed in lodge 4 which was by far the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in, immaculate, spacious, so well equipped. The books, DVDs and board games were an extra touch and came in handy for some family time after exploring during the day. The surrounding area is beautiful and so many things to see and do nearby. West Sands beach is clean and beautiful and Bishop’s Wood and Craigtoun Country Park about a mile away are both worth a look. There are so many things we didn’t get chance to explore so I think we will be back. I think we will struggle to find any other accomodation as nice as this. Many thanks to Anne and the team.
